Agartala, 9th September 2025:   The Kailashahar District Congress has announced a 12-hour shutdown on September 11 demanding urgent action on a set of 11 civic and administrative issues affecting the region. The announcement was made during a press conference held this evening at the Unakoti District Congress office by local MLA Birajit Sinha.

District Congress President Badruzzaman and other senior leaders were also present at the briefing.

Sinha emphasized that Kailashahar residents have long suffered from administrative neglect. Among the top demands are: immediate repair of the road connecting the old Dak Bungalow to Rangauti, upgradation of drainage systems in the Kailashahar municipal area and northern parts of the town, and implementation of a comprehensive master plan for urban development

Sinha criticized internal conflicts within the municipal council, citing public remarks by the Chairperson who blamed the Vice-Chairperson for obstructing developmental work. “Unless the infighting stops, meaningful progress is impossible,” he said, calling the situation “deeply unfortunate.”

Other pressing concerns raised by the Congress leadership include the delayed rollout of MGNREGA employment schemes in rural areas ahead of the festive season, which has left many without work. They also pointed to a breakdown in law and order stemming from contractor-related disputes, marked by office blockades and violent confrontations. Additionally, they expressed alarm over the growing drug trade in and around Kailashahar, warning that local youth are increasingly falling into addiction while the administration remains a silent spectator.

The Congress leadership vowed to intensify its agitation until the demands are met, asserting that the September 11 bandh is just the beginning of a broader movement for accountability and reform.
