Agartala, 27th December 2024: The Birpurush team emerged victorious in the 13th Buddha Gupta Memorial Media Cricket Championship organized by Syandan Patrika. In the final match held on Friday, Birpurush defeated Nageshwari-A by four wickets to clinch the champion’s trophy. The tournament was held at the local MBB ground, saw enthusiastic participation from media professionals including journalists, photojournalists and sports journalists.
The road to the final was challenging, with Nageshwari-A defeating B-Team by four wickets in the first semifinal and Birpurush overcoming Risk Team by four wickets in the second semifinal. The excitement and camaraderie among the participants were evident throughout the tournament, celebrating the memory of renowned professional photographer Buddha Gupta.
The inauguration ceremony featured the Editor of Syandan Patrika and Managing Director of Syandan TV Subal Kumar Dey as the chief guest. In his speech, he encouraged participants to strive for success with dedication and highlighted Buddha Gupta’s exemplary courage in photojournalism. Dey was accompanied by Chairman of Tripura Gramin Bank Satyendra Singh, Editor of Headlines Tripura National Pranab Sarkar, entrepreneur Rupam Roy, and Principal of the School of Science Abhijit Bhattacharya.
The event also featured an exhibition match among female journalist cricketers, adding to the festivities. Sumon Acharya, Mithun Kar and photojournalist Prangopal Acharya were honored for their long-standing contributions to sports journalism and photojournalism.
The tournament concluded with a special awards ceremony. Meghdhan Deb won the Man of the Tournament trophy and prize money. Other awardees included Pranab Shil for Best Batsman, Rabindra Sharma for Best Bowler, and Meghdhan Deb for Best Fielder. The awards were presented by Editor of Ajker Fariyad Patrika Shanit Debroy and Senior Manager of Canara Bank Pulak Chakraborty.
Technical Director and senior sports journalist Suprabhat Debnath was also honored. Umpires Sukanta Saha, Bapan Hossain, Sabuj Khan and Diptonil Choudhury were recognized for their contributions.
