 Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Key to Rural Development: Sudhangshu

Agartala, 27th December 2024:  Fisheries and animal husbandry play an important role in rural economic development, and the state government has prioritized these two sectors, said ARDD Minister Sudhangshu Das.

Das, who is also the Minister of Fisheries, made this statement during the South Tripura district-level review meeting of the Fisheries, ARD Development, and Scheduled Castes Welfare Department held today.

Explaining the purpose of the review meeting, which was conducted at the Circuit House in Belonia, the Minister said it aimed to ensure that people are benefitting properly from the various projects under these three departments and to review their work and progress.

“This review meeting will also examine whether the funds allocated to the three departments in the current financial year’s budget are being utilized effectively. If milk production in the district is to increase, the department needs to act with greater sincerity,” he said. The Minister highlighted the need to utilize water bodies effectively to boost fish production in the district and meet the local demand.

During the meeting, the Fisheries Minister stressed the importance of coordination between officials and public representatives in implementing the projects and services of the concerned departments. The public representatives present discussed the progress and implementation of various projects and services under these departments. In response, the Fisheries Minister directed the officials to take appropriate action on the issues raised during the discussions.

The meeting was attended by South Tripura Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Dipak Dutta, Vice President Tapan Debnath, MLA Mailaflu Mag, MLA Swapna Majumdar, MLA Ashok Mitra, Director of the Animal Husbandry Development Department Niraj Kumar Chanchal, Director of the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department Jayant Dey, District Magistrate Pradip Kumar, Sub-Divisional Magistrates, BDOs, Panchayat Samiti Chairpersons, Chairpersons of Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats, and officers from various departments, including the three under review.

At the beginning of the meeting, a one-minute silence was observed in memory of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh
