BJP-CPIM clashes leave one dead, many injured in Charilam

Agartala: November 30. More than 15 persons including CPIM MLA Bhanu Lal Saha sustained severe injuries after BJP supporters allegedly launched an unprovoked attack on the opposition party at Charilam today afternoon.

After the attack one CPIM worker succumbed on his injuries at hospital.

Speaking with reporters, MLA Bhanu Lal Saha said CPIM had taken prior permission to hold a street corner and mass deputation at BDO officer in Charilam under Sepahijala district.

“With an intension to murder us they launched an attack and hurled crude bomb on us. However we some people have somehow took shelter when BJP supporters started pelting stones on us. I sustained injured on my nose and head. Later we entered inside an ATM where also they attacked on us and because of my PG I narrowly escaped”, said MLA Saha while taking treatment at hospital.

He further informed that more than 15 persons of CPIM workers were injured.

“It was prescheduled programme of our party and prior permission was also taken. Police were present in front of our party office in Charilam when we were holding a meeting and all of a sudden they (BJP) unauthorized gathered and pelted bricks, stones, bottles and bombs on us. They also assaulted some of our workers physically. Some more people from our party have taken shelter in some houses or in some shops”, he alleged.

Saha has also alleged that BJP workers have also threatened him to kill.

Soon after BJP workers allegedly launched the attack, the CPIM workers also retaliated following which the situation has turned grim and some BJP workers also injured. A large contingent of police and CRPF personnel were deployed to maintain the law and order situation.

Later, a team of CPIM led by party state committee secretary Jitendra Choudhury, former minister Manik Dey, CITU general secretary Sankar Prasad Datta and state committee member Pabitra Kar has visited GB Pant hospital and met the victims and family members of the deceased one.

While speaking with reporters, Choudhury said, “Not only in Charilam, but the real example of good governance of BJP has witnessed entire state today in Charilam. In Charilam after BJP formed government they completely gag the voice of the opposition. After so many days taking prior permission, MLA and Ex Minister Bhanu Lal Saha went there to open party office. Before reaching our party worker, BJP backed goondas were already gathered with lathi, bricks and etc and infront of police they attacked our party workers, one Sahid Mia killed”.

The CPIM also informed that they have decided to hold protest rally across the state demanding restore of law and order and immediate arrest of the culprits killed Sahid Mia.Former Chief Minister and leader of opposition Manik Sarkar also paid a visit to GB Hospital and demanded action against the culprits who killed Sahid Mia.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma slammed opposition CPIM for creating disturbance with the help of anti social elements in his Charilam Assembly Constituency.“As elections are approaching CPIM leaders are taking anti social elements from Bishalgarh in Sepahijala district to create disturbance in Charilam Assembly Constituency. If they hire anti social elements to break the peace in my assembly then our workers will definitely prevent them. Not only today but for so many days CPIM did this. One former minister of CPIM is entering in Charilam with goondas which he did earlier too. However after BJP formed it decreased”, said Dev Varma.

He also said, “We will not tolerate such things. Somebody will come with goonda and will create disturbance in Charilam nobody will tolerate. Charilam is a peaceful place and CPIM is trying to break the peace and because of them this incident took place”.During the clash police personnel including Additional Superintendent of Police, Bisalgarh SDPO and two journalists also came under attack and admitted at hospital.Police sources said that total 15 injured from CPIM and BJP while one dead.“The situation is normal as we have deployed huge contingent of police, TSR and CRPF. So far around 15 persons from both side were injured and one dead. However so far no FIR were registered”, the police said.
