Tripura’s GSDP & per capita income increased: Secretary Md Zubair Ali Hashmi

Agartala, November 30, 2022: The Secretary of the Planning (Statistics) department Md Zubair Ali Hashmi on Wednesday said that the Directorate of Economics & Statistics (DES) has been playing a pivotal role in collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of various types of socio-economic data for planning & policy decisions.

Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday morning, Secretary Md ZA Hashmi highlights some of the major achievements and development made in the state. The Directorate of Economics & Statistics (DES) successfully participated in all rounds of National Sample Survey (NSS) conducted by National Statistics Office (NSO), Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MOSPI), Govt. of India as a part of All India programme. Subject coverage of the on-going NSS 79th Round is Comprehensive Annual Modular Survey (CAMS) and Survey on AYUSH. Period of survey from 1st July, 2022 to June, 2023 covering 144 rural and 76 urban samples in all 8 districts of Tripura. Survey is being carried out in Computer Aided Personal Interview (CAPI) Mode using hand held devices. DES appeals the citizen of Tripura to extend co-operation by giving correct information for generating reliable data for policy decisions, he added.

Hashmi said “Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) or State Income is the most important indicator for measuring the economic growth of a State. The Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is a measure in monetary terms, the sum total volume of all finished goods and services produced during a given period of time, usually a year, within the geographical boundaries of the State, accounted without duplication.”

“The GSDP in 2011-12 fiscal year was Rs 19208.41 crore and in 2019-20 (Revised Estimate), it is Rs 54151.12 crore. The per capita income is Rs 47,155 in 2011-12 financial year and in 2019-20, it is Rs 1,21,456”, he added.

The Department published “Vision 2030, 7 Year Strategy, 3 Year Action Plan Indicators” in August 2019 and the Department is the nodal agency for SDG implementation and monitoring and finalised the “State Indicator Framework (SIF)” and “District Indicator Framework (DIF)” in February 2020.

Directorate of Economics and Statistics has been developing a dynamic web-portal in- collaboration with NIC-UP which will provide a one stop solution for state database as a whole.A proposal is going-on with ISI-Kolkata through a MoU for undertaking 11- studies/surveys for generating creditable data.This Department organized 8 district level workshops (one in each district) on “Users of Data and other stakeholders for review of existing Statistical Products. Department has also organized induction trainings of newly recruited officials of DES-Tripura. Index of Industrial Production (IIP) for Tripura is under release in Support for Statistical Strengthening (SSS). The work related to preparation of the compendium of cavironmental statistics and climate changes for Tripura, is under process. The price collection system from different Sub-Divisions of the concerned Districts has now been made on CAPI mode instead of Paper and Pencil Interview (PAPI) mode of data collection for faster and speedy data collection.

Directorate of Economics & Statistics Government of Tripura regularly published different publications to depict socio-economical development of Tripura. These Publication also meet the quest of data search across different section of people, theses publications is available for all at free of cost in the website www.ecostat.tripura.gov.in.

The 7th Economic Census is launched in Tripura on July 2019 in complete digital mode 1st time in the entire country. The field work was carried out by CSC under technical guidance of the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI) and coordination through DES Tripura. Provisional result is ready for released by the MOSPI.
