Agartala, 15th July 2024:  A four-member team from the ruling BJP, led by Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy, conducted a peace meeting in the Gandatwisa sub-division of Tripura’s Dhalai District. This initiative, directed by Tripura Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, aimed to address the aftermath of a violent protest. The delegation assured the victims of prompt financial assistance from the government.

The unrest, which occurred on the night of July 12, resulted in the death of a youth and significant property damage, with houses and shops being set ablaze. Following the incident, Minister Tinku Roy, along with former MP Rebati Tripura, BJP Vice President Subal Bhowmik, and MLA Rampada Jamatia, visited the affected area. The delegation faced a hostile reception from the victims, who have been living in relief camps.

In a press briefing, Minister Roy stated that under the Chief Minister’s instructions, the BJP leaders convened a crucial meeting with administration officials, market traders, affected residents, and local citizens at the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s office to assess the situation in Gandatwisa.

“The state government has taken necessary measures to restore peace and normalize life in the area, including providing all kinds of assistance and swift financial help to the victims. We urge everyone to remain calm, patient, and cooperative with the administration,” said the Minister.

Roy acknowledged the victims’ anger, noting their prolonged stay in relief camps. “Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha sent us here to engage with those who have lost their homes, shops, and belongings. Although we cannot replace what they have lost, we assured them of the government’s commitment to helping them rebuild their lives. The CM has issued directives, and the District Magistrate has also visited. The Revenue Department is currently assessing the losses,” he informed reporters.

Minister Roy added that during the meeting, he instructed the administration to distribute financial aid within two days. “We requested them to provide around 25% of the aid immediately and also sought enhanced security for the affected people so that the market can reopen. Our peace meeting aimed to ensure peaceful coexistence. We listened to each individual’s concerns and assured them of comprehensive support,” he concluded.
