Agartala: August 08. Former Chief Minister and leader of opposition Manik Sarkar today slammed the ruling BJP for their ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign as they had no role during the freedom movement of India. While attending a blood donation camp organised by Student Federation of India (SFI), Sarkar who is also a member of CPIM Politburo claimed that BJP is trying to re-wright the history in a new way.

“Today is a significant day. On 8th august of 1942 All India Congress Committee was holding a conference during the then Bombay in which Mahatma Gandhi has said that British have to quit India and raised slogan ‘Do or Die’. Since then Congress has raised voice against British under. However, in the year 1921 in Goa the CPIM has demanded full freedom through massive movement during a conference of Congress. Farmers, people, the then student federations of CPIM worked and fought for the freedom. However BJP had no role”, he said.

Sarkar claimed that now BJP is trying to change the history.“Now those who are ruling the country had no role in the freedom fight. They betrayed the people of India and helped British. I have observed they have launched an event named ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ but surprisingly they didn’t accept the India national flag. Their leaders said this can’t be flag of India. As per the leader of the BJP or its wings the national flag of Indian will be ‘saffron’”, he said.

He further claimed that in the year 2000 BJP or its others wings first hoisted this national flag when they were in power in Centre. “Now they are saying har Ghar tiranga but they are not using the word ‘national flag’. There must be a purpose behind this. They have understood that they have lost the ground and lost the faith of people and so they are now trying to re-wright the history in a new way”, the veteran CPIM leader told reporters.
