Agartala: November 18. CPIM on Friday slammed the ruling BJP government for insulting indigenous people of the state by not introducing Kokborok language for announcement purpose in Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala.

Addressing a press conference, CPIM state committee secretary Jitendra Chaudhury said that in 2016 budget session during under NDA led BJP government in centre, when Chaudhury was MP of Lok Sabha has raised a question on introduction of Kokborok language in airport and Railway stations in the state.

“During that time the then union civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju of Telegu Desam Party and the then Railway minister Suresh Pradbhu has agreed and has written a letter to me that Airport Authority of India has implemented announcement on flight information in Kokborok language at Agartala airport”, said Jitendra.

He further said till 2019 when the tenure end a Lok Sabha MP of Jitendra Choudhury the announcement used to made in Kokborok apart from Bengali, English and Hindi but after that all of a sudden without any prior information the announcement in Kokborok was stopped.

“But there were no step of this government to introduce it again. But TIPRA motha chairman raised the issue again and the civil aviation minister has declined. Such attitude of this government proved that this government is against the tribals. This is a direct insult to the tribal and to the language as well. They (BJP) don’t know how to respect a language”, said Jitendra and condemned the role of the government.
