Agartala, August 05, 2022: Pradesh Congress Committee on Friday organized ‘Raj Bhavan Gherao Abhiyan’ under the banner of the ‘Civil Disobedience Movement’ against price rise, unemployment, Agnipath scheme and GST on essential commodities. The mass movement was attended by former minister and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman, former Congress state president Gopal Chandra Roy, PCC president Birajit Sinha and others.

Addressing the massive gathering in front of Bipani Bitan near to Circuit house here, Roy Barman castigated the role of the BJP-led NDA government for an autocratic regime across the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Congress party has always been on the road agitating on people’s sufferings. In today’s ‘Raj Bhavan Gherao Abhiyan’, issues are- skyrocketing prices of essential commodities, inflation, prices of petroleum products went beyond reach of common masses, and on the top of this, central government imposed GST on food items.

“Common people will curse this government, the number of poverty in the country is increasing day by day. 97 percent of people in this country have reduced their income and this is mainly due to demonetisation on November 8, 2016. And now, in the aftermath of the unscientific unplanned GST, 2,30,000 small industries have closed down in the country, and crores of people have become jobless and unemployed”, he added.

Roy Barman also said “Thus, in 2014-15, when the Modi government came to power for the first time, their tax collection through various taxes increased by 34 percent, i.e. from Rs.27.27 lakh crore to Rs.5 lakh crore in 21-22 as shown in the estimated budget. However, after this increase, GST has started to be levied again. On daily necessities that include- rice, dal, wheat, pencil, sharpner, pulses, etc. GST has started to be imposed on everything, what people will eat then. Eating pulses has become a nightmare for people.”
