Agartala, 7th December 2025:    Senior Congress MLA and former Tripura minister Sudip Roy Barman launched a forceful attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday, alleging that the ruling party is misusing the Special Summary Revision (SIR) process for political advantage.

Speaking at a meeting with party workers in Noagaon under the 6-Agartala Assembly Constituency, Roy Barman cautioned Booth Level Officers (BLOs) across the state against engaging in any kind of electoral manipulation under political pressure.  He cited examples from Maharashtra, Haryana, and Bihar, claiming that irregularities in voter lists—including instances where a single individual’s name appeared over 400 times, along with widespread duplication and fabricated entries—should serve as warnings for Tripura.

“We have no objection to the removal of names of deceased individuals or foreign nationals,” Roy Barman said. “But what we have seen elsewhere—duplicated names, multiplied entries, and fraudulent registrations—will not be tolerated in Tripura.”

Highlighting the state’s small size and interconnected communities, he warned that unlawful activities would be easier to identify and trace.“This is not a threat,” he clarified. “But if anyone attempts such actions under the influence of the BJP, they will face strict legal and administrative consequences—including the possibility of losing their job.”

Roy Barman accused the ruling party of trying to manipulate the voter list to favor Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, asserting that Congress would strongly resist any such attempts. He also emphasized that the Election Commission of India (ECI) holds the ultimate responsibility for ensuring a fair and transparent electoral roll.

Calling upon Congress workers to remain alert, he urged them to prevent any attempt to distort the democratic process.“We cannot allow this to continue,” he said. “This government is corrupt—a BJP government of the corrupt, by the corrupt, and for the corrupt.”

With Assembly polls approaching, Barman’s remarks indicate a sharper, more combative stance by the Congress against what it alleges is the systematic misuse of administrative procedures by the ruling BJP.
