Agartala, 29th September 2026 : Allegations of bribery, political intimidation and the alleged demolition and looting of a woman’s shop have triggered tension in Kamalasagar, with a local BJP MLA and party leaders facing serious accusations.
According to a complaint lodged by shopkeeper Dipa Sarkar, she allegedly paid Rs 90,000 to Kamalasagar MLA Antara Deb Sarkar on the assurance of receiving a government housing unit, locally referred to as a “BT” or “Building Trust” house. She further alleged that a local BJP booth president took another Rs 80,000 for the same purpose. The woman claims she paid a total of Rs 1.70 lakh in the hope of securing the government benefit.
Sarkar alleged that despite nearly two years having passed, the promised housing assistance did not materialise. Instead, she claimed that she subsequently faced pressure and harassment.
The latest allegation concerns Piyush Chowdhury, described as a BJP Mandal-level leader. According to Sarkar, Chowdhury allegedly entered her shop near the Kasbeshwari Temple, demolished the structure and took away goods and other belongings from the premises.
Following the incident, Sarkar approached Madhupur Police Station on Tuesday afternoon and submitted a written complaint against Chowdhury, seeking action over the alleged demolition and removal of her belongings.
The allegations have generated considerable resentment in the Kamalasagar area. Local residents have expressed concern over the claims that money was allegedly collected in the name of government benefits and that the woman’s shop was subsequently demolished.
