Agartala, 29th September 2026 : The Tripura State Election Commission has ordered re-polling in three seats of two Village Committees following reports of disturbances and alleged bogus voting during Monday’s Village Committee elections.
Announcing the decision at a press conference on Tuesday evening, State Election Commissioner P.K. Chakraborty said re-polling would be held in Seats No. 3 and 4 of Gamaria Village Committee under Matabari Block and Seat No. 4 of Paharpur Village Committee under Amarpur Block.
According to the Commission, disturbances were reported at two polling stations under the Amarpur and Matabari blocks during polling on Monday. The matter was subsequently brought to the notice of the election authorities.
After examining the reports submitted by the respective Returning Officers, the State Election Commission decided to conduct fresh polling in the three affected seats.
Chakraborty said the re-polling has been scheduled for October 3, with voting to begin at 7 am. The Commission has already issued the necessary notification for the fresh polling.
Counting of votes for the re-polling will be held on October 5, beginning at 8 am, as per the scheduled counting process.
The State Election Commissioner further said that the overall voter turnout in the Village Committee elections was 81.21 per cent.
He said reports received by the Commission indicated that bogus voting had taken place in the three seats where re-polling has now been ordered. The decision was taken after reviewing the reports of the Returning Officers and other relevant information related to the polling-day incidents.
