BJP projects serve ‘plunder,’ not public welfare: LoP

Agartala, 22nd March 2026:   Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury today alleged that the projects implemented over the last eight years were largely aimed at “plunder” rather than genuine development.

A press conference was held at the CPM party office in Dharmanagar, attended by prominent leaders including Chaudhury, 56 Assembly by-election candidate Amitabh Dutta, Dharmanagar MLA Islam Uddin, and other party dignitaries.

Addressing the media, Chaudhury questioned the development achieved in Dharmanagar over the past eight years, particularly in sectors such as health, education, culture, and infrastructure, including roads and electricity. He alleged that these projects primarily benefited a few individuals rather than the general public.

Chaudhury also highlighted the achievements of the Left Front government, reminding the audience that many of Dharmanagar’s key establishments—including colleges, the Vivekananda 150th Anniversary Cultural Centre (the only cultural center in the Northeast), the district hospital, the ISBT, and the water treatment plant—were developed during their tenure.

He further claimed that recent years have witnessed political clashes rather than meaningful progress. Criticizing the BJP for a lack of accountability, Chaudhury directly appealed to Dharmanagar voters to consider the absence of development and ongoing corruption when casting their votes in the upcoming by-elections.

Regarding party preparations, he added that CPM candidates for 23 of the 28 ADC seats have already filed nominations, with the remaining five expected to submit theirs within the next three days.

Chaudhury also commented on current political alliances, highlighting internal conflicts within the BJP-IPFT-Tipramatha coalition. He cited public disagreements between coalition leaders—Chief Minister and Pradyot Manikya Kishore—including street-level threats and confrontations, which he said reflect a disconnect from public interests.

Concluding his address, Chaudhury urged voters to choose the political party that would allow the people to live freely and independently, emphasizing that the electorate holds the power to shape Dharmanagar’s future development.
