Tripura Police seize drugs worth Rs 12 Lakh, one held

Agartala, 22nd March 2026:  A man was arrested in Tripura after police recovered a large quantity of illegal drugs from his residence, officials said on Sunday.

According to police, the incident took place late Saturday night in West Noabadi, on the outskirts of Agartala. Acting on a tip-off about stored narcotics, a police team launched a raid around 10 PM.

Officer-in-Charge of Bodhjung Nagar Police Station, Prasanta Kumar Dey, stated that he led the operation along with the DCM of Jirania. During the search, authorities seized 11,800 Yaba tablets from the house.

The accused, identified as Dipen Datta, was taken into custody at the scene. The estimated value of the seized drugs is around Rs 12 lakh. Police have registered a case in connection with the incident.

Officials also revealed that Datta had previously been arrested in 2022 under the NDPS Act. During questioning, he provided certain statements, which are currently being verified. He is reportedly employed as a pump operator.
