Agartala, February 09, 2023: Assam Trinamool Congress president Ripun Bora on Thursday alleged that the BJP is showing its step-motherly attitude for Tripura and other North Eastern states of India.

Addressing a press conference at TMC state headquarters here on Thursday afternoon, Bora said “BJP has taken the votes of the electorates in confidence through double-engine’s point of view. Since 2014, BJP is in power at the centre and since then, the political party termed NE states as ‘Astalakshmi’, but in reality, the party-led government is having a step-motherly attitude towards eight states of this region.”

“There is no mega project sanctioned for Tripura and other NE states in the past 9 years. Union Finance minister has been placing the budget showing much love and respect towards NE region. Even NITI Aayog sanctioned Rs 80,000 crore for NE states, but the ministry of DoNER hasn’t release a single penny since 2014”, he added.

Assam TMC president questioned why people will cast their votes in favour of BJP based on these grounds? He claimed that the saffron party is doing injustice with the people of NE region.

Citing an instance, Bora said “Under Infrastructure Development Scheme, the union government is claiming that the budget of Rs 2,491 crore has been doubled for NE states in 2023-24 fiscal year compared to budget of Rs 1,419 crore in 2022-23 FY. If this amount is analysed critically, Rs 302 crore each NE state is allocated from this total amount. This is completely ‘Jumla’ and fooling common people. A big flyover cannot be constructed with this amount in each state.”

TMC state president Pijush Kanti Biswas said the AITC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee is arriving in Tripura on Friday for addressing at Kurti-Kadamtala and Kamalpur.
