Agartala, 26th October 2026 : The Tripura Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday organised a protest rally and demonstration in front of Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala to condemn Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s alleged objectionable remarks concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s late father.
During the protest, BJP leaders launched a sharp attack on the Congress and the CPI(M), accusing the opposition parties of pursuing divisive politics and attempting to create political instability in the country.
Addressing the gathering, BJP general secretary Bhagaban Das alleged that the remarks made by opposition leaders reflected their political frustration. He claimed that the Congress and Left parties were struggling to regain public support and urged BJP workers to remain vigilant against what he described as attempts to undermine national unity and peace.
Das called upon party workers to stay alert and closely monitor developments around them. He alleged that efforts were being made to disrupt peace and weaken the country’s national unity, cultural heritage and economic progress. He further claimed that several opposition forces had joined hands against the BJP-led government.
Criticising the political understanding between the Congress and Left parties, Das also referred to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and certain protests held in Delhi. He alleged that some protesters were drawing inspiration from political developments in Bangladesh and advocating agitation in India. These allegations were part of his address at the demonstration.
Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Das said their leadership had strengthened the country’s stability and development. He accused opposition parties of attempting to create political unrest instead of seeking public support through elections.
Referring to Kharge’s alleged remarks, the BJP leader said political criticism should have its limits and should not extend to personal attacks against the Prime Minister and his family. He also criticised Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi in this connection, arguing that political differences should not become an excuse for personal attacks.
Das also questioned the political objectives of the Congress’s Bharat Jodo campaign, accusing the opposition of engaging in divisive politics. He further alleged that the Congress and CPI(M) were attempting to return to power through means other than securing public support in elections.
Calling upon BJP workers to strengthen their outreach, Das urged them to visit households and communicate the party’s positions and policies to the public. He said national unity, cultural heritage and the country’s stability would remain important priorities for the BJP.
The protest was attended by MLA and Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, Sadar (Urban) district BJP president Asim Bhattacharya, presidents of seven mandals, and other party workers and supporters.
The programme concluded with BJP leaders reiterating their opposition to Kharge’s alleged remarks and criticising the political positions of the Congress and Left parties.
