Agartala, 26th October 2026 : An alleged incident of assault involving a Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel, who is accused of using his association with the Chief Minister’s security detail to intimidate local residents, has triggered tension in a neighbourhood after an auto-rickshaw driver reportedly sustained a serious head injury following a dispute over parking.
According to the injured driver, the incident occurred on Sunday night when he was returning home in his motor-van and found five to six motorcycles parked in front of a neighbouring house, obstructing the narrow six-foot-wide lane leading to his residence. He requested his neighbour, identified as Raju, to move the motorcycles to allow him to pass.
The request allegedly led to an argument, following which four to five people who were attending a party joined the confrontation. The driver alleged that they grabbed him by the throat, dragged him aside and assaulted him, leaving his head split open. Neighbours subsequently intervened and arranged medical treatment.
The victim stated that the assault took place in front of his wife, daughter and mother-in-law. He has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the police station, seeking action against those involved.
Residents have levelled serious allegations against a person identified as Sijan, claiming that he frequently invokes his alleged association with the Chief Minister’s security team to intimidate people in the locality. They alleged that his conduct has created an atmosphere of fear and that repeated appeals for intervention have failed to bring relief.
Expressing anger over the incident, a resident questioned whether ordinary people were expected to leave their homes because of alleged intimidation and violence. The residents said they were considering approaching Chief Minister Manik Saha with a collective appeal for justice.
The neighbourhood residents have demanded a fair investigation and appropriate legal action against the accused.
