BJP strategy for Village Committee polls takes shape, Dr Saha keeps Tipra Motha tie-up under wraps

Date:

Agartala, 8th August 2026 : Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Saturday indicated that the BJP is working on a broader political strategy for the upcoming Village Committee elections, following a crucial meeting with the party’s central leadership in New Delhi on Thursday.

Saha said the meeting was attended by senior BJP leaders, including national president Nitin Nabin and national organisational secretary BL Santosh. According to the Chief Minister, the discussions primarily focused on the forthcoming Village Committee elections, the party’s strategic approach and its political position in the days ahead.

Speaking to reporters in Agartala, Saha said, “There was a meeting. You must have seen it on Facebook or social media. We discussed the Village Committee elections that are going to be held in the coming days. Our strategic direction and where our position will be in the coming days—all the issues were discussed there.”

However, the Chief Minister maintained that the details of the discussions would be disclosed only after the party finalises its decisions. He indicated that the outcome could become clear within a short period.

Speculation has been growing over a possible understanding between the BJP and Tipra Motha ahead of the Village Committee elections. Asked directly whether any agreement with Tipra Motha was being considered, Saha said all relevant issues had been discussed and that he would speak on the matter once everything was finalised.

On the possibility of another meeting with Tipra Motha leaders in Delhi, the Chief Minister did not rule it out. “It could be. There is no problem with it. If it happens, you will know then. But now I cannot say anything,” he said.

Regarding the long-pending tripartite agreement, Saha said the process had been continuing for a long time but did not provide a specific timeline.

Asked when the BJP’s position would become clear, the Chief Minister replied, “You’ll find out soon,” while smiling.

His cautious remarks have intensified political speculation over the BJP’s electoral strategy and the possibility of a fresh understanding with Tipra Motha.
