Agartala, 12th March 2026: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has suspended Arup Dhar, president of the party’s Yuva Morcha in Unakoti district, following allegations of immoral conduct. The disciplinary action, announced Thursday, comes two days after a local woman filed a police complaint accusing Dhar of sexually abusing her for nearly a year.
In an official order, BJP Tripura Pradesh general secretary Amit Rakshit stated:
“Allegations received that you are indulged in immoral activities which are detrimental to the party’s image. Therefore, pending receipt of your written explanation, as directed by the State President, BJP Tripura Pradesh, you are hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect for gross misconduct.”
Rakshit further directed Dhar to submit his written explanation to the party’s state office in Agartala by March 18, 2026.
The complainant, a mother of two, told reporters she had lived with Dhar for a year, leaving behind her family, but alleged he abandoned her after exploiting her. She claimed Dhar had arranged accommodation for her in Kumarghat, but she was evicted within days. “I have been trying to contact Arup but it seems he blocked my phone number. Finding no other alternative, I lodged a complaint,” she said.
The suspension is seen as part of a face-saving exercise by the BJP amid mounting public scrutiny over the allegations.
