Agartala, 7th November 2025: A senior BJP worker Shyamal Das was reportedly assaulted and left critically injured last night following an altercation with a local nationalist leader and his nephew in the Gokul Sardar Para area of Kanchanmala.

Local sources informed that Das had finished his day’s work and visited Kanchanmala market to discuss a personal legal matter. During the conversation, Sanjay Roy also known as Sanju, a local nationalist figure and ration dealer allegedly became enraged and launched a sudden attack on Das. Roy’s nephew Suman Saha is said to have joined in the assault.

Das, who works as a driver and is a long-time BJP supporter sustained serious injuries and managed to return home before collapsing. His wife and family members immediately sought justice from Roy’s elder brother, but were allegedly met with hostility instead of support.

Das was later taken to the Kanchanmala Primary Health Centre by his wife, where he remains in critical condition. The Amtali police were informed and promptly arrived at the health centre to begin a preliminary investigation.

Speaking to the media personnel late last night, Das’ wife claimed that Sanjay Roy had previously issued threats to her husband’s life. She accused Roy and his nephew of attempting to kill Das during the attack. She further stated her intention to file a formal complaint with the Amtali police station today, naming both accused individuals.

Police investigations are ongoing.
