BJP workers protest police inaction after attack on MLA’s vehicle

Date:

Agartala, 21st April 2026:. Tensions flared in Kakraban today as BJP workers staged a protest at the local police station, accusing authorities of inaction following a series of attacks on party members and leaders after the April 17 Tripura ADC election results.

It is reported that, BJP workers and supporters have been targeted across the state, forcing many to flee their homes for safety. Allegations surfaced that four TIPRA Motha supporters attacked the vehicle of Matabari MLA Abhishek Deb Roy on polling day. Police registered a case against four individuals and detained three- Nisadhan Jamatia, Vivekananda Debbarma, and Narayan Jamatia. However, they were released on bail after being produced in court on April 20, sparking renewed fear in the area.

BJP activists claim police failed to apply the appropriate charges, allowing the accused to secure bail quickly. In protest, party workers gathered at Kakraban police station this evening, locking OC Jayanta Malakar inside the premises while chanting slogans against the police. They accused the force of siding with TIPRA Motha and betraying public trust.

As the situation grew tense, senior police officials rushed to the spot to restore order. BJP workers demanded Malakar’s removal and pressed for stricter action against the accused. The protest subsided only after police officials assured them of further steps to address their concerns.

The incident highlights growing unrest in Tripura, where post-election violence has left BJP workers alleging targeted attacks and questioning the neutrality of law enforcement.
