Agartala, 5th June 2026: The All Tripura Blind Association submitted a deputation to the Director of the Social Welfare and Social Education Department today, pressing for the implementation of its 21-point charter of demands. A delegation from the association visited the department office and placed their demands before the Director, urging immediate government intervention.
Among the key demands raised by the association are the urgent filling of all vacant government posts reserved for visually impaired persons through a special recruitment drive. They also demanded a monthly financial assistance of at least Rs 5,000 for all visually impaired individuals, irrespective of whether they fall above or below the poverty line.
Other major demands include increasing the hostel capacity of the Narasingarh Blind Boys’ and Girls’ Empowerment Institution from 50 to 100 seats, and the establishment of a Braille press in Tripura to support accessible education materials for visually impaired students.
The association also called for the immediate implementation of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 in Tripura, along with the creation of a separate dedicated department for the welfare and development of persons with disabilities in the state.
According to the association, this is not their first submission of the 21-point demand charter. They stated that earlier representations had been made, but as no concrete action has yet been taken by the authorities, they were compelled to submit the deputation again, urging swift and decisive government response.
