Agartala, 29th August 2026: A voluntary blood donation camp was organised at the CPI(M) Dukli sub-divisional office to mark Martyrs’ Day commemorating Food Movement martyrs Dilip, Tarun and Arabinda, as well as youth leaders Rajyeshwar and Sumitra Sinha. The programme was organised jointly by the Dukli divisional committees of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI).
Members, supporters and local residents participated in the camp, with 21 people voluntarily donating blood. The organisers said the initiative was aimed at helping meet the demand for blood and extending support to people in need.
Leader of the Opposition and CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury attended the programme along with SFI state secretary Srijan Deb, SFI state president Pritam Shil, Dukli divisional committee secretary Paritosh Debnath, president Pankaj Sarkar, state leader Bishal Chakraborty and other leaders and activists.
Addressing the gathering, Chaudhury described blood donation as a noble social service and appreciated the students for organising the initiative. He said young people were facing growing economic, social and political challenges and stressed the need to encourage them towards humanitarian values, patriotism, democratic ideals and constructive social activities.
Chaudhury also criticised what he described as restrictions on social and youth-oriented programmes in the state, alleging that permissions for blood donation camps and other activities had sometimes been denied. He said the initiative demonstrated the commitment of SFI members to social responsibility despite difficulties.
He congratulated the young blood donors and expressed hope that the student organisation would continue its social activities and contribute to society.
