Date:

Agartala, 29th August 2026: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Saturday visited the bereaved family of Chitranka Hazari, who died after reportedly jumping from a high-rise water tank near the AG Office in Agartala on August 27. The Chief Minister met her family members and expressed his condolences over the tragic incident.

Speaking after the meeting, Dr. Saha described the incident as deeply unfortunate and tragic. He said Chitranka was the youngest daughter of Gopinath Hazari, whom he described as a dedicated and altruistic worker of the Bharatiya Janata Party.

“We are aware that a truly unfortunate incident has occurred. It is deeply tragic; there are no words for it,” the Chief Minister said. He noted that Chitranka was only 32 years old and said the circumstances surrounding her death were known only from reports available so far, with further details likely to emerge later.

Dr. Saha said he had wanted to visit the family earlier but could not do so as the Legislative Assembly was in session. He added that other party workers and the local councillor had already visited the bereaved family.

Recalling his interactions with Chitranka, the Chief Minister said he had met her several times during election campaigns and other programmes. He expressed sorrow over her untimely death and prayed for peace for her soul.

Dr. Saha also recalled Gopinath Hazari’s commitment to public service, saying that whenever anyone faced a problem, he would rush to help. Describing Chitranka’s death as a profoundly unfortunate incident, the Chief Minister conveyed his sympathies to the grieving family.
