Agartala, 29th November 2025:   Anger erupted in Gandacherra subdivision after participants of the annual boat race locked the local Fisheries office, protesting the delay in prize distribution.

The incident took place at Narikel Kunja on Dumbur Lake, where the ADC’s Fisheries department organized the traditional boat race on September 14. Each year, the first prize carries a reward of Rs 1 lakh. However, contestants allege that despite the competition concluding more than two months ago, the promised prize money has not yet been handed over to the winners.

Frustrated participants padlocked the Gandacherra Fisheries office today, demanding immediate disbursement of the prize. “Has the ADC administration run out of funds? If not, why treat poor villagers in this manner?” questioned the aggrieved competitors.

The protest has sparked widespread resentment in the area, with locals rallying behind the demand for swift payment. Contestants insist that the authorities must act without further delay to restore trust in the annual event.
