Agartala, 25th September 2026 : Greater awareness among citizens and active public cooperation are essential to bringing down road accidents and making government welfare initiatives accessible to those who need them most, Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said on Friday.
The Minister made the remarks while inaugurating a road safety awareness programme organised by the Sepahijala District Administration at New Town Hall in Bishalgarh.
Addressing the gathering, Chowdhury emphasised the importance of following traffic regulations and adopting necessary safety precautions while travelling on roads. He said informed and responsible behaviour among motorists and pedestrians could play a crucial role in preventing accidents and saving lives.
He also highlighted several government initiatives aimed at assisting accident victims and people facing emergencies. Referring to schemes such as Rah-Veer and PM Rahat, the Minister said greater public awareness was necessary to ensure that eligible beneficiaries could access assistance at the time of need.
“The government is committed to extending support to people in distress. However, people must also be aware of the schemes and procedures through which such assistance can be obtained,” he said.
Chowdhury further announced plans for the redevelopment of the *Bishalgarh Motor Stand*, stating that the government was taking steps to improve transport infrastructure while keeping public safety and convenience at the centre of its efforts.
He said similar road safety and awareness programmes would be conducted in schools, colleges and other public institutions across Tripura. Such initiatives, he added, would seek to encourage responsible driving and strengthen awareness of traffic rules among the younger generation and the wider public.
