Agartala: June 02. The murder case of Bodhisattwa Das, a bank manager, has reached a crucial stage as the session court of West District has announced its judgment today and found the accused persons as guilty, said advocate Samrat Kar Bhowmik.
He said that the court found all four accused, namely Sumit Banik, Sumit Chowdhury, Sukanta Biswas, and Amar Sharif, guilty under Sections 302 (Murder) and 34 (Common Intention). However, the final verdict and sentencing will be delivered tomorrow. The case has garnered significant attention, with 56 witnesses providing testimony.
“Among the witnesses, two individuals, Basu Kar, an important witness, was deemed hostile as he did not support the prosecution’s claims. Although he witnessed the entire incident and knew how Bodhisattwa Das was killed, he chose not to disclose any information in favor of the prosecution while Dr. Abhijit Dasgupta, who treated Bodhisattwa Das in August 2019, denied hearing any statements made by the victim to the police while he was dying. In response to the false statements given by Basu Kar and Dr. Abhijit Dasgupta, we submitted an application before the court. The application requests further proceedings against these individuals for providing misleading or false statements during the trial”, said the advocate.
The murder of Bodhisattwa Das occurred in the early hours of August 3-4, 2019, near Jackson Gate in Agartala. Bodhisattwa Das, the former manager of the United Commercial Bank (UCO) branch in Dharmanagar of North District, was brutally killed by the four accused Sumit Chowdhury, Sumit Banik, police sub-inspector Sukanta Biswas, and Omar Sharif alias Shoaib.
