Agartala, 17th November 2026: Panic gripped residents of Paikhola under Belonia police station early this morning after the body of a man was discovered inside an auto parked along the Paikhola–Balutila road.
Police informed that the deceased has been identified as Hijong Debnath, who was reportedly struggling with mounting debt. Preliminary investigation suggests he may have consumed poison, though the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after post-mortem examination.
Local residents first noticed the auto standing suspiciously by the roadside around 7 a.m. and alerted authorities. A police team rushed to the spot and recovered the body. Family members later told investigators that Debnath had been under severe financial stress for a long time.
Forensic experts also visited the scene, collected samples, and initiated an inquiry. Police have sent the body for autopsy and stated that the final report will determine whether the death was indeed a case of suicide.
