Agartala, 17th November 2026:   A devastating fire broke out late night of January 16 last at Garji Bazaar in Udaipur, reducing seven shops to ashes. Within moments, the raging flames consumed years of traders’ stored goods, causing losses estimated to run into several lakhs of rupees.

Firefighters rushed to the scene upon receiving the alert and battled the blaze for hours before bringing it under control. By then, however, the shops had been completely gutted.

This morning, CPI(M) state committee member and Udaipur subdivision secretary Dilip Datta visited the site along with a delegation of the subdivision committee. They met with affected traders, assured them of support, and urged the administration to provide immediate compensation and rehabilitation.

Party leaders also demanded a thorough investigation into the cause of the fire and called for preventive measures to avoid such incidents in the future. Local traders, meanwhile, expressed hope for swift relief and rehabilitation to recover from the disaster.
