Agartala, 24th June 2024 : A commotion ensued in North Deocherra Ward No. 1 on Monday morning as the body of an elderly woman was found. The 75-year-old woman has been identified as Joshna Chakraborty had been missing since 12 noon on June 19. Her disappearance was reported to the Panisagar police on June 21.
Local residents found the body in an open field in Ward No. 6 on the morning of June 24 and immediately alerted the authorities. Panisagar police arrived at the scene and found the body in a severely decomposed state making immediate exhumation and post-mortem examination impossible.
“The body was in such a condition that we couldn’t perform an immediate autopsy,” a police spokesperson said. “We have notified the DCM doctor and additional police forces to assist with the investigation and ensure a proper post-mortem.”
The woman’s son Sujit Chakraborty identified the body. “She had been mentally unstable and frequently went missing,” he said, expressing his grief over the tragic end.
The body was found near a forested area, which has raised further questions about the circumstances of her death. “After the autopsy, we hope to determine the time and cause of death,” the police spokesperson added.
