Agartala, 4th July 2025: A wave of shock gripped the Maheshpur Tea Estate area under the Kadamtala-Kurti constituency after the body of a 24-year-old man was found hanging from a tree this morning.
The deceased has been identified as Suman Nath, a resident of Ward No. 2 under the Baragol Gram Panchayat. Locals were reportedly the first to spot the body hanging and promptly alerted the Kadamtala police, who rushed to the scene along with forensic experts. Members of the victim’s family also arrived shortly after being informed.
The family alleged that Suman was murdered and his body staged to appear as suicide. “He left home around 3 PM yesterday, saying he was going to his in-laws’ place in Bishnupur Ward No. 1 to pay an EMI. He promised to return today but never came back,” said Sukanta Nath, the deceased’s uncle, while speaking to reporters at the scene.
A written complaint has been submitted to the police, urging a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death. The family expressed further suspicion, noting that despite the proximity of the in-laws’ house to the incident site, none of them were seen at the spot.
Prosenjit, the elder brother of Suman’s wife, confirmed that Suman was supposed to visit their house the previous day, but never arrived.
Kadamtala Police have transported the body to the local social health centre for postmortem. They assured that the body will be handed over to the family after the examination is complete.
