Agartala, 22nd February 2026:   The 10th bi-annual conference of the Bishalgarh Divisional Committee of the All Tripura Book Sellers and Publishers Association was held on Sunday at 12 noon at the Cafeteria Hall in Bishramganj Bazaar.

The event was inaugurated with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the association’s state committee general secretary Uttam Chakraborty, joint secretary Asit Roy, treasurer Shridam Bhowmik, divisional committee president Pradip Dutta, secretary Suman Kalyan Debnath, along with other leaders of the organization.

Prior to the start of the conference, members paid tribute to late book trader Runutosh Chakraborty of the Bishalgarh division by garlanding his portrait and observing a minute of silence.

In his welcome address, divisional committee president Pradip Dutta noted that the committee once had 68 book traders, but many have since left the business due to various reasons. He expressed hope that those who remain will work together to expand the association’s reach.

Secretary Suman Kalyan Debnath presented the editorial report, which was discussed and reviewed by members. Following deliberations, a new nine-member Bishalgarh Divisional Committee was formed. The newly elected office bearers are Babul Chandra Shil as the President, Pradip Dutta as the Secretary and Sudip Choudhury as the Treasurer.

During the discussions, state committee general secretary Uttam Chakraborty emphasized the need to prevent private schools from selling books, uniforms, and other items directly, as this practice negatively impacts local book traders. He stated that the new committee will raise this demand with the state government in the coming days.
