Tripura youth held with gold biscuits at Badarpur railway station

Agartala, 22nd February 2026:   In a major breakthrough, the Railway Police in Assam’s Barak Valley achieved significant success during a special operation on Sunday morning. Authorities intercepted a passenger carrying gold worth over Rs 80 lakh at Badarpur Railway Station.

The operation was conducted on train number 15626, the Deoghar Weekly Express, where police detained a youth identified as Abhijit Debnath. A search revealed five gold biscuits weighing 584.4 grams in his possession.

Railway police sources informed that the seized gold is estimated to have a market value exceeding Rs 80 lakh. The accused hails from Ranibazar’s Harichoudhury Para under Majlishpur police station in West Tripura.

Officials confirmed that Debnath is currently being interrogated intensively. The arrest, coming just ahead of the Assam Assembly elections, has sparked considerable public attention and raised questions about possible links to smuggling networks.
