Agartala, 23rd  February 2026 :  Several community health guides, recently laid off from their positions, staged a public protest on Monday near the Circuit House, highlighting their demands. The protesters also submitted a deputation to the Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, according to organizers.

The laid-off workers claimed that for years, community health guides have been providing government welfare health services directly to rural communities. Nearly three thousand workers across the state were associated with this program.

According to the protesters, a government notification issued on November 1, 2025, abruptly terminated their employment. Many of the affected workers are over 60 years old, yet no retirement benefits or social security measures have been provided to them.

In this context, the protesters are demanding the withdrawal of the layoffs, reinstatement of their jobs, and provision of pensions or social security for those already laid off. They have warned that if their demands are not met, they may escalate their movement in the coming days.
