Agartala, March 27: A significant event aimed at fostering voter enthusiasm took place today at the Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT) in Narsingarh, Agartala on Wednesday. The event, a Student Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, was organized with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in mind.
The Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, collaborated with the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer of the State to conduct the program. The event featured a quiz competition on election-related issues among female students, a drawing competition, and a discussion cycle on elections in India.
The chief guest, Subhashish Bandyopadhyay, the Additional Chief Electoral Officer of the state, highlighted the Election Commission of India’s efforts since 2009 to educate voters through the SVEEP initiative. He also mentioned the launch of several apps, including C-Vigil, which allows voters to report issues in the election process and verify information.
Bandyopadhyay emphasized the importance of voting in the election of real representatives and called it everyone’s duty. He encouraged all new voter students to exercise their voting rights and urged their parents and neighbors to take responsibility for casting their votes at the polling stations.
The event began with Sudipto Kar, an officer from the Central Bureau of Communication, administering an oath to the students to uphold the sacred duty of democracy by voting. Bijoy Kumar Upadhyay, the Principal of the Tripura Institution of Technology, and Jhunu Debbarma, the Dean of the Academic Department of TIT, also spoke about the importance of voting during the discussion cycle.
