Agartala, 7th December 2025:   An unusual and alarming theft disrupted electricity supply across Teliamura town yesterday after miscreants removed ceramic electrical grips from multiple power poles. What initially appeared to be a routine technical fault was later revealed to be a deliberate act of theft, leaving several areas without power throughout the day.

Officials from the Power department said that the ceramic grips contain brass components, which are believed to have been the target of the theft. Investigators suspect the stolen brass was intended to be sold for quick profit.

This morning, residents of Dasmighat Rajnagar caught a youth identified as Paritosh Debnath of Bishalgarh red-handed while attempting another theft. He was detained by locals, who immediately informed Teliamura police and the electricity department. Police later took him into custody.

Local residents allege that Debnath is addicted to narcotics and had been stealing brass fittings to fund his habit. The incident has raised serious concerns about public safety in Teliamura, particularly as two grips were also found missing from a large transformer situated directly in front of the Teliamura police station.

Speaking on the matter, Biswajit Biswas, Junior Engineer of Teliamura Electricity Division–1, confirmed that grips had been mysteriously disappearing from various parts of the town since Saturday. “Even the transformer in front of the police station was targeted. We have informed the Officer-in-Charge, Jayanta Dey, about the matter,” he said. Biswas added that the department will file a formal complaint against Debnath at Teliamura police station.

The bizarre thefts have sparked widespread concern among residents, who are demanding increased vigilance to prevent similar acts of sabotage in the future.
