Agartala, 7th December 2025:   A massive fire reduced an entire household to ashes on Thursday, leaving a family homeless and causing losses estimated at Rs 15 lakh. The blaze broke out at the residence of Ajit Shukla Baidya, located near Hatkata Bazaar in the Padmabil area of Khowai.

Local sources informed that the smoke was first noticed around 10 am from Baidya’s home. Within minutes, flames spread rapidly through the house and engulfed two nearby paddy storage units. Despite the swift arrival of two fire engines, firefighters struggled for over an hour to bring the blaze under control. By then, the damage was irreparable.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire may have originated from an electrical short circuit. Fire and police officials are conducting a joint probe to determine the exact cause.

The family had no chance to salvage belongings as the fire spread with intense heat and speed. Important documents, gold ornaments, cash, stored paddy, clothing, electronic appliances, and furniture were all destroyed. “Everything we had is gone,” Baidya said, estimating the loss at around Rs 15 lakh.

The incident drew large crowds of local residents, who expressed shock and sorrow at witnessing their neighbor’s misfortune.
