Agartala, 23rd May 2025:  A major road accident narrowly avoided tragedy in Baishnavpur ADC Village under Sabroom subdivision this morning as an overloaded stone-laden truck caused the collapse of a 15-ton iron bridge near Mongaisaimog Para. While several pedestrians were on the bridge at the time, no serious injuries were reported.

Local sources informed that the incident took place around 6 am when a truck carrying stones for cable-laying work in the border area attempted to cross the bridge, exceeding its load capacity. The sudden structural failure has disrupted traffic in the area, significantly affecting movement and daily activities, including the Baishnavpur market.

The collapse has raised concerns over infrastructure maintenance, with residents alleging that repeated appeals for repairs were ignored by the administration. With no immediate alternative routes available, the local administration has assured a prompt investigation into the matter and the implementation of temporary measures to restore connectivity.

Residents are now demanding stricter regulations on vehicular load limits and urgent reinforcement of local infrastructure to prevent such incidents in the future. Meanwhile, authorities have prioritized rescue operations and are expected to outline further corrective steps soon.
