Agartala, 7th July 2025: In a strong show of unity, thousands of residents from the Bru rehabilitation centers in Naisingpara, Ashapara and Khasnampara under Kanchanpur subdivision took to the streets today around noon demanding immediate government action on three critical issues concerning their rehabilitation.
Carrying placards and banners, the demonstrators marched through the main streets of Kanchanpur town before staging a protest in front of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s (SDM) office. A five-member delegation later submitted a written memorandum to the SDM outlining their demands.
The key points raised in the memorandum include: Immediate issuance of income-based ration cards to all rehabilitated Bru families in the aforementioned centers; Allotment of agricultural land as per the terms of the rehabilitation agreement; Proper registration and documentation of residential plots provided under the rehabilitation scheme; and Delegates urged the administration to fulfill these demands without delay, citing long-pending grievances and the need for secure livelihoods.
Protesters further warned that failure to implement their demands promptly could lead to escalated agitation, including a potential blockade of the national highway in the coming days.
