BSF Detains Seven Bangladeshis, Seizes Narcotics Worth Lakhs in Tripura

Agartala, 19th August 2024:  In a series of operations, the Border Security Force (BSF) in Tripura detained seven Bangladeshi nationals and seized narcotics valued in lakhs of rupees.

According to a press release by the BSF, on the night of August 18-19, based on specific intelligence, BSF troops stationed at the Harnakhola Border Outpost (BOP) in Sidhai, West Tripura District, apprehended seven Bangladeshi nationals attempting to cross the border fence. Among those detained, two are from Maulvibazar District, and five, including a woman and a child, are from Brahmanbaria District. The BSF also recovered 1.5 lakh Bangladeshi Taka and 300 US dollars from their possession.

In a separate operation, BSF personnel detained an Indian national at the Mantoli BOP in Amtali, West Tripura District, and recovered 14 small packets of suspected brown sugar. Upon further interrogation, the suspect led the BSF to a culvert near the Nischintpur bridge, where 1,000 yaba tablets were concealed. The area is currently under development for the Agartala-Akhaura Railway link.

Additionally, in various other operations, the BSF seized a significant quantity of cannabis and 1.75 tons of sugar. The BSF in Tripura has heightened its vigilance and operations along the border to prevent infiltration and curb transborder crimes, the release stated.
