Agartala, 4th October 2024:  A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was seriously injured while attempting to stop a sugar smuggling operation at the Sonamura sub-division border. The incident has caused widespread panic in the area. The injured jawan, Harish Chandra Pandey of the 150 Battalion, is currently receiving treatment at GB Hospital.

The Sonamura sub-division is notorious for smuggling activities, leading to frequent clashes between BSF personnel and smugglers. This morning, a confrontation occurred in the Dudhpukur area near the Boxanagar Starata fence. Jawan Pandey, stationed near Gate 188 under Bakhiar village panchayat, encountered smuggler Riyad Hossain. In the ensuing struggle, Hossain severely assaulted Pandey, inflicting a serious head injury.

Pandey was initially taken to Boxanagar Community Healthcare Centre, where his condition was deemed critical. He was then transferred to GB Hospital for further treatment. The incident has heightened tensions and fear across the border region.
