BSF Jawan Shot Near India–Bangladesh Border in North Tripura

Agartala, 23rd December 2025:  Tension prevailed once again along the India–Bangladesh border after a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan was shot in North Tripura district. The incident took place in the Maheshpur area under the Dharmanagar subdivision.

The injured jawan has been identified as Bipin Kumar (35), who is posted with the 97th Battalion of the BSF. According to sources, he sustained two bullet injuries in the upper part of his left arm (shoulder area). However, the exact circumstances under which the firing occurred have not yet been officially clarified by the BSF authorities.

Following the incident, the injured jawan was immediately rescued and taken to Dharmanagar District Hospital. Dr. Prasun Bhattacharya of the hospital stated that BSF personnel brought in a jawan with two bullet marks on his left shoulder. After providing preliminary treatment and considering the seriousness of his condition, he was referred to the state’s referral hospital, GB Hospital, for advanced medical care.

News of the incident quickly spread, creating panic and concern in the border areas. The shooting has once again raised questions about security arrangements and the overall situation along the India–Bangladesh border.

BSF officials have reportedly begun an investigation into the incident, though no official statement regarding the cause of the firing has been released so far.

It is worth noting that the border areas of North Tripura have long been considered sensitive, with frequent reports of smuggling, infiltration, and other security-related incidents. In this context, the shooting of an on-duty BSF jawan has renewed concerns about border security.A detailed investigation into the incident is currently underway.
