Agartala, 6th July 2026: A daring burglary at a residence near Fulchhari Bazar on the outskirts of Kamalpur town has triggered concern among local residents. Burglars allegedly broke into the house by breaking the door locks and fled with approximately Rs 70,000 in cash and around 1.5 bhori of gold ornaments.
According to reports, the homeowner, Sujit Saha, had travelled to Agartala with his wife on July 1 for medical treatment, leaving the house unoccupied. When he returned home at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, he found the two locks on the main entrance broken. Upon entering the house, he discovered that valuables had been stolen and immediately alerted neighbours, who rushed to the spot.
Police from Kamalpur Police Station arrived at the scene soon after receiving the information and launched an investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that the burglars broke open an almirah and locker, making away with nearly Rs 70,000 in cash and approximately 1.5 bhori of gold jewellery. The miscreants also ransacked several rooms before fleeing.
The incident has raised concerns over law and order in the area, particularly as the house is located close to Kamalpur Police Station. Some local residents alleged that several thefts have occurred in the locality in recent months, but effective action against the culprits has been lacking. They also claimed that an organised gang of thieves has been operating in the area under the cover of darkness.
Residents have demanded the immediate identification and arrest of those responsible, increased night patrols, and stronger measures to ensure public safety.Meanwhile, police said an investigation is underway and that all possible leads are being examined to identify and apprehend those involved in the burglary.
