Bus Owners’ Association gives police 24-hour deadline to arrest accused

Date:

Agartala, 8th October 2026 : The Sonamura Bus Owners’ and Workers’ Association has given Bishramganj Police 24 hours to arrest those allegedly involved in vandalising and looting an Agartala-Sonamura route bus and assaulting its driver.

The incident occurred on the evening of October 6 in the Chechrimai area under Bishramganj Police Station. According to the association, following a collision involving two motorcycles near Chellikhal Relation Hotel, an agitated group allegedly attacked driver Kamal Das, damaged the bus and looted goods worth around Rs 2 lakh. The driver reportedly sustained serious injuries and may require prolonged medical treatment.

On Thursday, association leaders Swapan Chandra Saha and Biplab Majumder, along with vehicle owner Rohit Murasing, submitted an FIR at Bishramganj Police Station. They demanded that OC Ojit Debbarma arrest the accused within 24 hours. Copies of the FIR were also submitted to the Sepahijala District Superintendent of Police and the District Magistrate.

The association warned that failure to ensure justice within the deadline would trigger a massive agitation. It further threatened to indefinitely suspend all passenger transport services, including buses, jeeps and taxis, on the Agartala-Sonamura route.
