Agartala, 30th September 2026 : A businessman was allegedly attacked, shot at and robbed by two miscreants after he refused to pay Rs 5 lakh in Kashipur Market area on Tuesday night. The incident occurred between 8:30 pm and 9 pm in front of Arabinda Club, leaving the victim, identified as Anup Kumar Sinha of Reshambagan, seriously injured.
According to a complaint being prepared for filing at West Agartala Police Station, Sinha was returning home from his shop when two persons allegedly intercepted him and demanded Rs 5 lakh. When he expressed his inability to pay, the accused allegedly assaulted him and fired a shot at him. The victim reportedly fell to the ground to save himself, while the bullet passed over his head.
The attackers allegedly snatched a gold chain weighing around two to two-and-a-half bhori from his neck and Rs 51,000 in cash, said to be the day’s sales proceeds.
Sinha’s family alleged that he was brutally beaten during the assault and suffered facial and arm fractures. He was rushed to GB Pant Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
The family has identified the alleged attackers as Biren Majumdar, reportedly residing behind Reshambagan School, and Liton Ghosh, who allegedly lives near Krishalay Nursery School opposite Kashipur Market.
A family member said he received a phone call about the incident and, on reaching the spot, found Sinha lying injured on the ground before taking him to the hospital. The family is seeking police action and has approached West Police Station to lodge an FIR.
