BY TC News Desk

Agartala, June 21, 2023: Lakshmi Singh, wife of the first Chief Minister of the state, late Sachindra Lal Singh, has written a letter to Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha seeking an accommodation to live in the state. The plea of 91-year-old Singh came to the notice of the Chief Minister and he considered the matter with sincerity.

The state cabinet meeting on Wednesday held an elaborate discussion to remember the contribution of veteran freedom fighter and former state chief minister late Sachindra Lal Singh and decided to allot a type-four government accommodation in Agartala as per his wife’s plea. Singh can enjoy this benefit for the rest of her life. Currently she lives in Faridabad, Haryana.

Late Sachindra Lal Singh’s contribution to building modern Tripura is undeniable. Sachindra Lal Singh served as the Chief Minister of the state from 1st July 1963 to 1st November 1971. He was a freedom fighter. He was elected MP from West Tripura Lok Sabha seat. In 2012, he was posthumously awarded the “Friends of Liberation War” by the Government of Bangladesh for his outstanding contribution to the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971. Sachindra Lal Singh passed away on 9th December 2000 in New Delhi. His spouse Lakshmi Singh has no own house in Agartala. Giving such benefits to the wife of former Chief Minister can be said to be a precedent in the state.
