Agartala, 4th June 2025:  A 33-year-old woman from South Tripura battling cancer has been granted 3 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, following a formal request by Lok Sabha MP and former Chief Minister of Tripura, Biplab Kumar Deb.

The patient, Smt. Mani Dey, daughter of Shri Amar Dey and resident of Baishnab Para, Chittamara, Belonia, is undergoing treatment at Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai. Doctors at the hospital estimated the total treatment cost to be 6 lakh for chemotherapy and supportive care.

On April 28, 2025, Biplab Deb wrote to the Hon’ble Prime Minister seeking financial assistance for the patient. In his letter, he urged the government to consider the case with compassion and extend maximum support from the PM National Relief Fund.

Acting swiftly, the Prime Minister’s Office sanctioned  3,00,000 on May 23, 2025, to partially cover the cost. The sanctioned amount has already been transferred to the hospital’s account via NEFT/RTGS through IDFC Bank, New Delhi.

According to the official communication from the PMO, the sanctioned amount is to be utilized strictly for the intended medical treatment, and the hospital must initiate treatment within three months of fund disbursal.

The letter, signed by Under Secretary (Funds) Pradeep Kumar Srivastava, also noted that the assistance is valid for a period of two years from the date of issuance.

This gesture comes as a significant relief to the patient and her family, and highlights MP Biplab Deb’s continued commitment to public welfare.
