Agartala, 4th June 2025: Power Minister Ratanlal Nath inaugurated a camp for the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana at Rajnagar Vivekananda Craft Center today, emphasizing the government’s commitment to promoting renewable energy. The initiative led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to expand solar power usage across the country, with camps being organized in various subdivisions of the state to ensure widespread awareness and accessibility.
During his address, the minister underscored the significance of electricity in modern life and reiterated the Prime Minister’s vision of harnessing renewable energy for future sustainability. He highlighted the scheme’s benefits, which allow households to generate electricity using solar power, reduce electricity bills, and earn additional income through on-grid transmission of surplus energy. The minister noted that a strong response has been observed among electricity consumers, with many already installing solar power plants at home and achieving zero electricity bills.
The PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana offers domestic consumers the opportunity to install solar plants of up to 10 kilowatts, with government subsidies available for installations up to 3 kilowatts. The maximum subsidy amount stands at ₹85,800, and interested applicants can set up the project on rooftops or open spaces, either through registered agencies or online applications. A bank loan facility is also available for those requiring financial assistance. The minister assured that government subsidies would remain valid until March 2027, encouraging residents to seize this opportunity.
Addressing environmental concerns, he affirmed that the initiative aligns with sustainable energy goals, ensuring electricity generation without ecological harm. As part of the awareness camp, beneficiaries shared their experiences, explaining how solar power installations have contributed to reduced energy costs and increased earnings.
MLA Swapna Majumdar urged residents to take advantage of the scheme, reinforcing the government’s push for solar adoption. The event was attended by local dignitaries, including Rajnagar Panchayat Samiti Chairman Biswajit Nath, social worker Dipayan Chowdhury, PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme Nodal Officer Shishir Debbarma, and senior officials of Vidyut Nigam. A total of 57 individuals registered during the camp to avail themselves of the scheme’s benefits.
