Agartala: June 06. Tripura Police on Tuesday seized huge cache of cannabis worth Rs 2.80 crore from two separate locations in the state.
Speaking with reporters, Avinash Rai, Superintendent of Police of Dhalai district said that the police have seized 897 kgs of cannabis in Ambassa from a container worth Rs 2 crores.
“The Highway mobile team of Tripura Police were checking vehicle on national highway at Ambassa in Dhalai district this morning. During checking vehicles they have found a container truck that was parked near the national highway without driver. So the police personnel have searched the vehicle thoroughly and found a secret chamber inside the truck. The highway mobile team has immediately informed DCM, CRPF, and other police personnel who rushed to the spot. We have opened the chamber and found 54 packets of cannabis of 897kgs around Rs 2 crore”, said the SP.
He said that the police have started an investigation into the case and trying to find out the driver.
While, in Khowai district, the police have arrested one person identified as Akash Debbarma and seized cannabis worth Rs 80 lakh.
Police sources said that the person Akash Debbarma who is resident of Mandwai of West District was heading towards Assam with his Hyundai car.
“When we detained the car during regular vehicle check-up we found his suspicious. When we searched it found 48 packets of cannabis worth Rs 80 lakh. We have immediately arrested the driver”, the police said.
