Agartala, 8th March 2025:   A car was set on fire in an alleged act of arson in Ward No. 6 of Baruakandi Gram Panchayat under Dharmanagar subdivision. The Maruti Alto vehicle belonged to local resident Bishal Dasgupta, who had been parking it by the roadside near his house for over a year without any prior incidents.

Last night, Bishal noticed flames engulfing his car and immediately alerted the Dharmanagar fire department. Firefighters rushed to the scene and managed to control the blaze, but by then, the car had been completely reduced to ashes.

Bishal Dasgupta revealed that one of the car’s door locks was faulty, which had allowed a local youth to use the vehicle for drinking alcohol. Three days prior, Bishal had confronted the youth over this issue, leading to an altercation. The youth had allegedly threatened to set the car on fire. Bishal suspects that the youth carried out the threat and is responsible for the arson.
